Ahh, I believe this is something we can all enjoy. Seeing as we're all writers here, I suppose it'd be appropriate to make each other aware of choice pieces of literature one might not otherwise be aware of or pick up at all~
As such, I'll let you all know of one of my favorite series' from highschool.
Skulduggery Pleasant.
Now, for the uninitiated, it's a book following the life of a young lady known as Stephanie Edgely who becomes embroiled in a hidden world full of magic, blah blah blah. I sound like I'm reciting a cliche~
Rather, magic exists in that universe and mages live among humans as do fantastic and horrifying creatures. These are regulated by 'Sanctuaries' all over the world that act as detective, police, and military services for the magic community and keeping it secret.
Stephanie, or Valkyrie as the name she takes as a mage, becomes partners/a student under Skulduggery Pleasant, the Irish Sanctuary's top detective and who also happens to be a reanimated skeleton.
A sarcastic, calm, reanimated skeleton. With a taste for pinstripe suits.
Now, I can't adaquately explain how entertaining it is to see the two talk to one another, so I'll simply post a quote from one of the books:
“Was it a test?” she asked. “I mean, I know I'm still new to this. I'm still the rookie. Did you hang back to test me, to see if I'd be able to handle it alone?”
“Well, kind of,” he said. “Actually, no, nothing like that. My shoelace was untied. That's why I was late. That's why you were alone.”
“I could have been killed because you were tying your SHOELACE?”
“An untied shoelace an be dangerous,” he said. “I could have tripped.”
She stared at him. A moment dragged by.
“I'm joking,” he said at last.
She relaxed. “Really?”
“Absolutely. I would never have tripped. I'm far too graceful.”

He put on his hat and wrapped his scarf around his jaw, but did without the wig and the sunglasses. He clicked his key chain and the car beeped and the doors locked.
"That's it?"
He looked up. "Sorry?"
"Aren't you afraid it might get stolen? We're not exactly in a good part of town."
"It's got a car alarm."
"Don't you, like, cast a spell or something? To keep it safe?"
"No. It's a pretty good car alarm.”
I highly recommend reading these books, because the universe is highly roleplay-friendly as well~
